Tooth meridian chart
for patients.

Every tooth sits on an acupuncture meridian tied to specific organs and body systems. Dr. Carlo Litano, DMD follows the Swiss meridian system used at SDS and Swiss BioHealth in Kreuzlingen, where he trained, and reads your dental history and health history through it side by side.

Reading the Chart

How meridians meet modern imaging.

Traditional Chinese Medicine describes energy pathways, meridians, running through the body, and the dental adaptation of that map assigns every tooth a place on one. Kidney lines through the front teeth. Liver and gallbladder through the canines. Digestive organs through the chewing teeth. Heart and small intestine out at the wisdom teeth.

Biological dentistry treats the chart as a pattern-reading tool. When years of symptoms and years of dental work line up on one pathway, an old root canal on a liver-meridian canine, say, in a patient whose complaints cluster on that same line, the chart tells us where to point the scanner.

Verification comes before treatment

Dr. Litano works from the Swiss meridian system used at SDS and Swiss BioHealth, the same Kreuzlingen school behind his surgical protocol. He checks every meridian-flagged tooth against evidence: low-radiation CBCT imaging for hidden infection or bone change, health history for the timeline, and material inventory for metals sitting on the pathway. Treatment decisions ride on verified findings, never on the chart alone.

Patients use the chart the same way at home. Line your dental history up against your symptom history, note where they cross, and bring both timelines to your exam.

Quadrant by Quadrant

Tooth meridian chart, tooth by tooth.

Tooth numbers follow the universal numbering system (1 to 32). Associations follow the SDS Swiss Dental Solutions meridian system, drawn up after Bahr-Schmid, Voll-Kramer, and the findings of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Beyond Organs

Joints, glands & senses on the same map.

Organs headline the chart, and the SDS system maps further than organs. A few of the associations patients ask about most: front teeth share pathways with the knees, sacrum, frontal sinuses, and adrenal glands, which is why the chart lists back pain and headaches beside them. Canines run with the eyes and hips. Upper molars carry the thyroid and parathyroid glands along with the jaw joint, and wisdom teeth sit on pathways the chart ties to the inner ear, shoulders, heart, and central nervous system.

Meridian Questions

Tooth meridian questions.

How the chart gets used in real treatment planning at our St. Petersburg office.

The chart comes from Traditional Chinese Medicine, and biological dentistry uses it as a pattern-reading framework rather than a diagnostic instrument. Findings on the chart get checked against CBCT imaging, health history, and clinical examination before any treatment decision.

The Swiss meridian system published by SDS Swiss Dental Solutions, the company founded by Dr. Ulrich Volz, whose Kreuzlingen clinic is where Dr. Litano trained. It is the working chart behind the biological exams here.

As one lens among several. When a patient’s symptom history and dental history line up on a meridian, the corresponding teeth earn a closer look on the 3D scan: old root canals, hidden infection, or metals sitting on that pathway.

The meridian tradition holds that a burdened tooth can mirror or contribute to trouble along its pathway. What our exams verify directly is the infection, inflammation, or material load itself, and treating a verified finding is where results come from.

Broad strokes from the traditional chart: incisors sit on the kidney and bladder meridians, canines on liver and gallbladder, premolars and molars split between lung, large intestine, stomach, and spleen, and wisdom teeth on the heart and small intestine pathways. Full detail sits in the chart above.
