The best graft material for a healing socket already runs through your own veins. Biological dentistry leans on that fact through PRF, platelet-rich fibrin, a concentrate spun from a small draw of your blood and placed directly into the surgical site. Dr. Carlo Litano, DMD uses it on extractions, cavitation work, and implant placement, following the protocols developed by researchers Joseph Choukroun and Shahram Ghanaati.

What PRF actually is

A phlebotomist draws a few tubes of blood at the start of surgery. A centrifuge separates that blood by weight, and the middle layer, a fibrin matrix packed with platelets and white cells, gets lifted out and applied where healing needs to happen. No chemicals, no additives, nothing from a donor or a factory. The matrix releases growth factors slowly over the following days, the same messengers your body uses to rebuild tissue and bone.

Why we spin different types

Spin speed changes what comes out. A firmer membrane (often called A-PRF) covers a wound and holds space while bone forms underneath. A liquid version (i-PRF) mixes into bone graft or drips into a socket to seed it with growth factors. PRGF, a related preparation, does similar work. Which one gets used depends on the site, and often several appear in a single procedure.

What it means for your recovery

Because the material is yours, allergic reaction and rejection leave the equation, and the growth-factor release supports the exact stretch of healing where complications usually start. Patients tend to report calmer sites and steadier recovery, which matters most on the bigger cases our out-of-town patients travel to Tampa Bay for. PRF pairs naturally with the ozone disinfection and same-day sequencing we already run.

Honest limits of the science

Honesty on the science: PRF supports healing, it does not guarantee it. Surgical technique, your health going in, and your aftercare all still decide the outcome. What PRF adds is a clean, biological edge with no material we have to source from anywhere but you.
