A mouth is warm, wet, salty, and electrically conductive, which is a corrosion environment by any engineering definition. Titanium in that environment can shed ions over time. Put two different metals in the same mouth, say a titanium post near an old amalgam filling or a gold crown, and measurable galvanic currents become possible between them. Sensitive patients sometimes taste it; most never connect the dots at all.

What zirconia is, in one paragraph
Zirconia is zirconium dioxide, a dense medical-grade ceramic used in hip replacements long before dentistry adopted it. It is white like a tooth root, biocompatible, and strong enough to carry molars. In implant form it comes as single-piece and two-piece systems, both metal-free from the post to the crown.

Dr. Carlo Litano, DMD studied under Dr. Ulrich Volz at Swiss BioHealth in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland, the surgeon who developed the first FDA-cleared ceramic dental implant. Implant dentistry usually means waiting on an outside lab. Our building holds its own: Primescan digital impressions and a Sirona MC X5 mill produce zirconia restorations in about three hours, which is how single implants, crowns, and full-arch cases compress into fewer visits. Out-of-state patients fly into Tampa International, stay in the apartment above the clinic, and finish work in one trip that would take months elsewhere.

Aesthetics nobody has to manage
Titanium is gray, and gum tissue thins with age. The dark line that eventually shadows through the gumline above a titanium post is familiar enough that implant dentistry developed workarounds for it. Zirconia is white through and through, so the material under the crown matches the story the crown is telling, even decades later when the tissue has receded a millimeter.
One-piece and two-piece systems
Single-piece zirconia implants machine the post and abutment as one unit, removing the microgap where bacteria colonize threaded connections. Two-piece systems restore flexibility for angled cases.
